Ingredients:
Cake
~ 2 cups flour
~ 2 cups sugar
~ 1 teaspoon baking soda
~ 2 teaspoons cinnamon
~ 2 sticks of butter
~ 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder
~ 1 cup water
~ 2 eggs
~ 1/2 cup of buttermilk
~ 1 teaspoon vanilla
Frosting
~ 1 stick of butter
~ 6 tablespoons buttermilk
~ 4 table spoons cocoa powder
~ 4 cups powder sugar
~ 1 teaspoon vanilla
~ 1 cup pecans or walnuts we prefer salted
Instructions
Cake
1. Preheat oven to 350. Grease and coat with cocoa powder a standard size sheet pan with sides. In large bowl sift together flour, sugar, cinnamon and baking soda, mix together and set aside.
2. In medium sauce pan over medium/low heat melt butter add in water and cocoa powder, bring to a rolling boil. After it comes to a boil pour in to your flour mixture and mix until almost totally combined. Add in eggs, buttermilk and vanilla mix until just combined.
3. Pour batter in to sheet pan, spread to the edges, and tap it on your counter a few times to get the air bubbles out. Bake 15 to 20 mins or until knife or tooth pick comes out clean.
Frosting
1. In medium sauce pan over medium/low heat melt butter add buttermilk, cocoa powder bring to a rolling boil, turn off the heat and whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla.
2. Pour over warm cake, spread evenly and top with pecans or walnuts. Allow to cool and set about an hour. Enjoy!
